Giardia lamblia Giant Microbe #GM0320
|
|
Giardia lamblia is a protozoan parasite often acquired in the beautiful, pristine out-of-doors. It often causes what is known as 'hiker's diarrhea,' although children's diapers and daycare centers are also common culprits in transmission. Giardia's appearance is misleading, because the parasite appears to have a smiley face to those peeking in the microscope. Smiles or not, big time cramps and stomach aches often result from this deceiving little critter. A cautious approach to the old swimmin' hole and suspicious water sources will go a long way to avoiding this insincere 'pal.' ![]() Giant Microbes¨ are an awareably great way to introduce serious public health issues to young (and young at heart), tackling tough subjects with a bit of twinkle. They may skew the approach a little, but not the message: that awareness is important, no matter what age the awaree! These fuzzy little critters go a long way to break down barriers and make the subject matter less threatening. AndÉTHEY ARE REALLY FUN! Note: Each 5 Ð 7 inch doll is made of surface washable polyester, accompanied by both image and information on the colorful tags. Great educational and awareness opportunities for parents, educators, you and yours. |
