Rhinovirus (Common Cold) You've had 'em. You know what they feel like. Headachy, congested, sneezy and generally miserable. That describes symptoms of the common cold, caused most likely by this RNA virus, with over a hundred relatives. Because they are caused by a virus, colds will not respond to antibiotics. Fortunately, after a week or so, they 'dribble' away on their own. In the meantime, be very careful about hand washing, and keep in mind that rhinovirus can live outside their nasal digs for over three hours, so can be easily picked up, or transmitted, if you are not on the lookout.  Giant Microbes¨ are an awareably great way to introduce serious public health issues to young (and young at heart), tackling tough subjects with a bit of twinkle. They may skew the approach a little, but not the message: that awareness is important, no matter what age the awaree!
