You thought you felt bad with a cold? Welcome to the flu! Flu presents with many of the symptoms of a cold, but with added 'bonuses' of crawly, sensitive skin, potentially serious respiratory complications, headaches and oftentimes, fever. While very common every year (up to 35-40% of the population may be infected), influenza has historical significance tracing back to worldwide influenza pandemics in which millions of people - without benefit of vaccines - died. Vaccines now available, however, can be very effective in preventing infections, and hopefully in preventing future public health catastrophes.  Giant Microbes¨ are an awareably great way to introduce serious public health issues to young (and young at heart), tackling tough subjects with a bit of twinkle.
